OverviewNCBI Gene

This gene encodes a protein with a kinase-like domain and four ankyrin-like repeats. The encoded protein associates at the cell membrane with the cytoplasmic domain of beta integrins, where it regulates integrin-mediated signal transduction. Activity of this protein is important in the epithelial to mesenchymal transition, and over-expression of this gene is implicated in tumor growth and metastasis. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Jun 2013]

Whether an antibody against ILK can act on the native protein depends on physical access: surface and secreted proteins are reachable by circulating antibodies, intracellular proteins usually are not.

Antibody and autoantibody relevanceSeroatlas analysis

Seroatlas reads ILK as an antibody target. Whether an autoantibody or antibody against ILK could matter depends on whether native ILK is physically reachable, whether the body needs it intact, and whether it acts in a disease-relevant tissue.

ILK is annotated at the cell surface, where native ILK is exposed to circulating antibodies and is a prime autoantibody target that could block, deplete, or overstimulate it.

Annotation status

The present source text does not explicitly label ILK as an autoantigen. Seroatlas presents hypothesis context only and does not manufacture a known-serology claim.
