Periplasmic binding protein-like I domains are similar in architecture to the those included in group II, but partly differ in topology. They consist of two similar intertwined globular subdomains, both exhibiting very similar supersecondary structures which consist of a central β-sheet flanked on either side by two or three helices PMID:2649682.
