OverviewNCBI Gene
The protein encoded by this gene is a membrane-bound receptor and member of the melanocortin receptor family. The encoded protein interacts with adrenocorticotropic and MSH hormones and is mediated by G proteins. This is an intronless gene. Defects in this gene are a cause of autosomal dominant obesity. Antibody and autoantibody relevanceSeroatlas analysis
Seroatlas reads MC4R as an antibody target. Whether an autoantibody or antibody against MC4R could matter depends on whether native MC4R is physically reachable, whether the body needs it intact, and whether it acts in a disease-relevant tissue.
MC4R is annotated at the cell surface, where native MC4R is exposed to circulating antibodies and is a prime autoantibody target that could block, deplete, or overstimulate it.
Annotation status
The present source text does not explicitly label MC4R as an autoantigen. Seroatlas presents hypothesis context only and does not manufacture a known-serology claim.
