Organic cation transport protein/SVOP

IPR004749

Definition

This family consists of organic cation transporters, members of the solute carrier family 22 (SLC22) PMID:25540139, and also includes transporter-like protein SVOP (synaptic vesicle 2-related protein), which has similarity to the SLC22 family PMID:17714910. SVOP may contribute to neuronal development, but its role is not clear and no transport substrate has been confirmed to date [[cite:PMID:9801366], [cite:PMID:23894296]]. Organic anion transporter 3 from mammals (SLC22A8 or OAT3) also belongs to this entry. This protein plays an important role in the excretion of endogenous and exogenous organic anions, especially from the kidney and the brain [[cite:PMID:14586168], [cite:PMID:11306713]].
