OverviewNCBI Gene
Nitric oxide (NO) is a potent mediator in biologic processes such as neurotransmission, inflammatory response, and vascular homeostasis. NOSTRIN binds the enzyme responsible for NO production, endothelial NO synthase (ENOS; MIM 163729), and triggers the translocation of ENOS from the plasma membrane to vesicle-like subcellular structures, thereby attenuating ENOS-dependent NO production.[supplied by OMIM, Apr 2004]

Whether an antibody against NOSTRIN can act on the native protein depends on physical access: surface and secreted proteins are reachable by circulating antibodies, intracellular proteins usually are not.

Antibody and autoantibody relevanceSeroatlas analysis
Seroatlas reads NOSTRIN as an antibody target. Whether an autoantibody or antibody against NOSTRIN could matter depends on whether native NOSTRIN is physically reachable, whether the body needs it intact, and whether it acts in a disease-relevant tissue.
NOSTRIN is annotated at the cell surface, where native NOSTRIN is exposed to circulating antibodies and is a prime autoantibody target that could block, deplete, or overstimulate it.
Annotation status
The present source text does not explicitly label NOSTRIN as an autoantigen. Seroatlas presents hypothesis context only and does not manufacture a known-serology claim.
