OverviewNCBI Gene

This gene encodes one of the two alpha chains of type XI collagen, a minor fibrillar collagen. Type XI collagen is a heterotrimer but the third alpha chain is a post-translationally modified alpha 1 type II chain. Mutations in this gene are associated with type II Stickler syndrome and with Marshall syndrome. A single-nucleotide polymorphism in this gene is also associated with susceptibility to lumbar disc herniation. Multiple transcript variants have been identified for this gene. Antibody and autoantibody relevanceSeroatlas analysis

Seroatlas reads COL11A1 as an antibody target. Whether an autoantibody or antibody against COL11A1 could matter depends on whether native COL11A1 is physically reachable, whether the body needs it intact, and whether it acts in a disease-relevant tissue.

COL11A1 is annotated as secreted, so native COL11A1 circulates and is directly accessible to antibodies. Secreted and cell-surface proteins are the autoantibody targets most likely to act like drugs, blocking or depleting the native protein.

Annotation status

The present source text does not explicitly label COL11A1 as an autoantigen. Seroatlas presents hypothesis context only and does not manufacture a known-serology claim.

Seroatlas is the reference for exploring autoantibody and antibody serology at the human-protein level: the autoreactome and human serome, multiplex serology (HuProt, HuScan, VirScan, PhIP-Seq).
