OverviewNCBI Gene
Keratins are intermediate filament proteins responsible for the structural integrity of epithelial cells and are subdivided into epithelial keratins and hair keratins. This gene encodes a protein that is expressed in the inner root sheath of hair follicles. The type II keratins are clustered in a region of chromosome 12q13.[provided by RefSeq, Jun 2009]

Whether an antibody against KRT71 can act on the native protein depends on physical access: surface and secreted proteins are reachable by circulating antibodies, intracellular proteins usually are not.

Antibody and autoantibody relevanceSeroatlas analysis
Seroatlas reads KRT71 as an antibody target. Whether an autoantibody or antibody against KRT71 could matter depends on whether native KRT71 is physically reachable, whether the body needs it intact, and whether it acts in a disease-relevant tissue.
KRT71 is annotated as predominantly intracellular. Intracellular proteins are common autoantibody markers, becoming visible to the immune system after cell injury or altered processing, but are usually markers of disease rather than direct drivers.
Annotation status
The present source text does not explicitly label KRT71 as an autoantigen. Seroatlas presents hypothesis context only and does not manufacture a known-serology claim.
