OverviewNCBI Gene
This gene encodes one of five subunits of eukaryotic translation initiation factor 2B (EIF2B), a GTP exchange factor for eukaryotic initiation factor 2 and an essential regulator for protein synthesis. Mutations in this gene and the genes encoding other EIF2B subunits have been associated with leukoencephalopathy with vanishing white matter. [provided by RefSeq, Oct 2009]

Antibody and autoantibody relevanceSeroatlas analysis
Seroatlas reads EIF2B1 as an antibody target. Whether an autoantibody or antibody against EIF2B1 could matter depends on whether native EIF2B1 is physically reachable, whether the body needs it intact, and whether it acts in a disease-relevant tissue.
EIF2B1 is annotated as predominantly intracellular. Intracellular proteins are common autoantibody markers, becoming visible to the immune system after cell injury or altered processing, but are usually markers of disease rather than direct drivers.
Annotation status
The present source text does not explicitly label EIF2B1 as an autoantigen. Seroatlas presents hypothesis context only and does not manufacture a known-serology claim.
