OverviewNCBI Gene

This gene encodes a subunit of the microprocessor complex which mediates the biogenesis of microRNAs from the primary microRNA transcript. The encoded protein is a double-stranded RNA binding protein that functions as the non-catalytic subunit of the microprocessor complex. This protein is required for binding the double-stranded RNA substrate and facilitates cleavage of the RNA by the ribonuclease III protein, Drosha. Alternate splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Jun 2010]

Antibody and autoantibody relevanceSeroatlas analysis

Seroatlas reads DGCR8 as an antibody target. Whether an autoantibody or antibody against DGCR8 could matter depends on whether native DGCR8 is physically reachable, whether the body needs it intact, and whether it acts in a disease-relevant tissue.

DGCR8 is annotated as predominantly intracellular. Intracellular proteins are common autoantibody markers, becoming visible to the immune system after cell injury or altered processing, but are usually markers of disease rather than direct drivers.

Annotation status

The present source text does not explicitly label DGCR8 as an autoantigen. Seroatlas presents hypothesis context only and does not manufacture a known-serology claim.
