Protein-arginine deiminase (PAD)
PF03068
Definition
Members of this family are found in mammals. In the presence of calcium ions, PAD enzymes [ec:3.5.3.15] catalyse the post-translational modification reaction responsible for the formation of citrulline residues: Protein L-arginine + H2O Protein L-citrulline + NH3. Several types are recognised (and included in the family) on the basis of molecular mass, substrate specificity, and tissue localisation. The expression of type I PAD is known to be under the control of oestrogen PMID:10092850.
5 human proteins with this domain
Each is a reviewed human protein in the Seroatlas serome and a potential autoantibody target; this domain groups them into one antibody-relevant category. Every entry links to its own record.
