OverviewNCBI Gene
This gene encodes a membrane protein that mediates cell adhesion between trophoblastic cells and the epithelial cells of the endometrium. The encoded protein participates in cell signalling during embryo implantation, and may also be involved in cancer formation. This gene is located near several other closely related genes on chromosome X. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2012]

Whether an antibody against TRO can act on the native protein depends on physical access: surface and secreted proteins are reachable by circulating antibodies, intracellular proteins usually are not.

Antibody and autoantibody relevanceSeroatlas analysis
Seroatlas reads TRO as an antibody target. Whether an autoantibody or antibody against TRO could matter depends on whether native TRO is physically reachable, whether the body needs it intact, and whether it acts in a disease-relevant tissue.
TRO is annotated at the cell surface, where native TRO is exposed to circulating antibodies and is a prime autoantibody target that could block, deplete, or overstimulate it.
Annotation status
The present source text does not explicitly label TRO as an autoantigen. Seroatlas presents hypothesis context only and does not manufacture a known-serology claim.
