OverviewNCBI Gene
MC2R encodes one member of the five-member G-protein associated melanocortin receptor family. Melanocortins (melanocyte-stimulating hormones and adrenocorticotropic hormone) are peptides derived from pro-opiomelanocortin (POMC). MC2R is selectively activated by adrenocorticotropic hormone, whereas the other four melanocortin receptors recognize a variety of melanocortin ligands. Mutations in MC2R can result in familial glucocorticoid deficiency. Alternate transcript variants have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, May 2014]

Antibody and autoantibody relevanceSeroatlas analysis
Seroatlas reads MC2R as an antibody target. Whether an autoantibody or antibody against MC2R could matter depends on whether native MC2R is physically reachable, whether the body needs it intact, and whether it acts in a disease-relevant tissue.
MC2R is annotated at the cell surface, where native MC2R is exposed to circulating antibodies and is a prime autoantibody target that could block, deplete, or overstimulate it.
Annotation status
The present source text does not explicitly label MC2R as an autoantigen. Seroatlas presents hypothesis context only and does not manufacture a known-serology claim.
