OverviewNCBI Gene
This gene encodes a member of the KIF4 subfamily of kinesin-like motor proteins. The encoded protein is characterized by an N-terminal motor domain a coiled-coil stalk domain and a C-terminal WD-40 repeat domain. This protein may be involved in microtubule dependent transport. Mutations in this gene are the cause of congenital fibrosis of extraocular muscles-1. Alternate splicing results in multiple transcript variants.[provided by RefSeq, Mar 2010]

Whether an antibody against KIF21A can act on the native protein depends on physical access: surface and secreted proteins are reachable by circulating antibodies, intracellular proteins usually are not.

Antibody and autoantibody relevanceSeroatlas analysis
Seroatlas reads KIF21A as an antibody target. Whether an autoantibody or antibody against KIF21A could matter depends on whether native KIF21A is physically reachable, whether the body needs it intact, and whether it acts in a disease-relevant tissue.
KIF21A is annotated as predominantly intracellular. Intracellular proteins are common autoantibody markers, becoming visible to the immune system after cell injury or altered processing, but are usually markers of disease rather than direct drivers.
Annotation status
The present source text does not explicitly label KIF21A as an autoantigen. Seroatlas presents hypothesis context only and does not manufacture a known-serology claim.
