Definition

Somatotropin, also known as growth hormone (GH), plays an important role in growth control. In addition to the growth-stimulating effect, GH is able to exert both insulin-like and insulin-antagonistic effects in adipose tissue and skeletal muscle PMID:3888078. The 3D structure of bovine somatotropin has been predicted using a combination of heuristics and energy minimisation PMID:2021631.
