OverviewNCBI Gene
The protein encoded by this gene catalyzes the transport of phosphate into the mitochondrial matrix, either by proton cotransport or in exchange for hydroxyl ions. The protein contains three related segments arranged in tandem which are related to those found in other characterized members of the mitochondrial carrier family. Both the N-terminal and C-terminal regions of this protein protrude toward the cytosol. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants have been isolated. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Antibody and autoantibody relevanceSeroatlas analysis
Seroatlas reads SLC25A3 as an antibody target. Whether an autoantibody or antibody against SLC25A3 could matter depends on whether native SLC25A3 is physically reachable, whether the body needs it intact, and whether it acts in a disease-relevant tissue.
SLC25A3 is annotated as predominantly intracellular. Intracellular proteins are common autoantibody markers, becoming visible to the immune system after cell injury or altered processing, but are usually markers of disease rather than direct drivers.
Annotation status
The present source text does not explicitly label SLC25A3 as an autoantigen. Seroatlas presents hypothesis context only and does not manufacture a known-serology claim.
