OverviewNCBI Gene
This gene encodes a member of the myosin-binding protein C family. This family includes the fast-, slow- and cardiac-type isoforms, each of which is a myosin-associated protein found in the cross-bridge-bearing zone (C region) of A bands in striated muscle. The protein encoded by this locus is referred to as the fast-type isoform. Mutations in the related but distinct genes encoding the slow-type and cardiac-type isoforms have been associated with distal arthrogryposis, type 1 and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, respectively. Antibody and autoantibody relevanceSeroatlas analysis
Seroatlas reads MYBPC2 as an antibody target. Whether an autoantibody or antibody against MYBPC2 could matter depends on whether native MYBPC2 is physically reachable, whether the body needs it intact, and whether it acts in a disease-relevant tissue.
MYBPC2 is annotated as predominantly intracellular. Intracellular proteins are common autoantibody markers, becoming visible to the immune system after cell injury or altered processing, but are usually markers of disease rather than direct drivers.
Annotation status
The present source text does not explicitly label MYBPC2 as an autoantigen. Seroatlas presents hypothesis context only and does not manufacture a known-serology claim.
