Fatty acid hydroxylase
PF04116
Definition
This entry includes fatty acid and carotene hydroxylases and sterol desaturases. Beta-carotene hydroxylase is involved in zeaxanthin synthesis by hydroxylating beta-carotene, but the enzyme may be involved in other pathways PMID:9353282. This family includes C-5 sterol desaturase and C-4 sterol methyl oxidase [[cite:PMID:10431816],[cite:PMID:1864507],[cite:PMID:26515067]]. Members of this family are involved in cholesterol biosynthesis and biosynthesis a plant cuticular wax PMID:8552601. These enzymes contain two copies of a HXHH motif which coordinate two irons at the catalytic centre. Members of this family are ER integral membrane proteins that share a novel mushroom-shaped fold consisting of four transmembrane (TM1-TM4) helices that anchor them to the membrane capped by a cytosolic domain containing the unique histidine- coordinating di metal centre PMID:8718622.
6 human proteins with this domain
Each is a reviewed human protein in the Seroatlas serome and a potential autoantibody target; this domain groups them into one antibody-relevant category. Every entry links to its own record.
