OverviewNCBI Gene

This gene encodes a protein that localizes to mitochondria and contains a predicted phytoene synthase domain. The encoded protein plays an important role in the assembly of complex I (NADH-ubiquinone oxidoreductase) of the mitochondrial respiratory chain through regulation of subunit ND1 biogenesis. Mutations in this gene are associated with complex I enzymatic deficiency. [provided by RefSeq, Nov 2011]

Antibody and autoantibody relevanceSeroatlas analysis

Seroatlas reads NDUFAF6 as an antibody target. Whether an autoantibody or antibody against NDUFAF6 could matter depends on whether native NDUFAF6 is physically reachable, whether the body needs it intact, and whether it acts in a disease-relevant tissue.

NDUFAF6 is annotated as predominantly intracellular. Intracellular proteins are common autoantibody markers, becoming visible to the immune system after cell injury or altered processing, but are usually markers of disease rather than direct drivers.

Annotation status

The present source text does not explicitly label NDUFAF6 as an autoantigen. Seroatlas presents hypothesis context only and does not manufacture a known-serology claim.
